Jury service, was once the sole domain of men of property, in The Bahamas. Despite women finally getting the right to vote, just in time for the 1962 General Elections, they were still barred from jury service.

It was not until 1968, that the first woman applied to the Supreme Court to have her name entered on the jury list. That first woman was Mrs. Clement Maynard; or as she would come to be remembered in history, Lady Zoe Maynard.
